Description

SD 94 NE GLUSBURN CONONLEY ROAD
2/81
Garden wall to west,
south and east of
Royd House
GV
II

Garden wall incorporating features from the previous house of 1636 and part of its
walls in situ.
To the road: A Tudor style doorway with elaborate surround and a larger doorways of
similar type with WM: AM carved in the spandrels. The moulding of the surround is not
carried right down the jambs, suggesting that this may be a re-used fireplace.
To the south a wall of large dressed stones incorporates 2 large double chamfered
mullion and transom windows with hoodmoulds, of 9 and 7 lights, and 2 blocked
doorways, one chamfered the other with an architrave.
To the east: wall incorporates a blocked chamfered doorway and 3 double chamfered
cross windows.
The house was demolished to make way for the present (smaller) house of 1910 but
photographs survive.
