20.2.58 Moons Town Head Farmhouse
Farmhouse and former stable with hay loft over, now part of house. Early C17.
Limewashed rubble, stone dressings, slate roof to house with stone coping to
right hand gable and former left hand gable, stone slate roof to former stables.
House: 2 storeys 4 bays, scattered fenestration. Entrance to left of centre
has chamfered surround, and chamfered basket arched lintel; stone slate gabled
hood. Left hand 3-light double chamfered window with cavetto mullions and hood-
mould. Similar window at lower level to right but with chamfered mullions and
without a hoodmould. Traces of a blocked segmental headed window can be seen
between this and a C19 window with a plain surround at the extreme right. Left-
hand window on upper floor is C18, 2 lights with plain surround and recessed
flat-faced mullion. Centre left and right hand windows are former 2-light
double chamfered windows with mullions now gone. Centre right window is C19,
one light with plain surround. All windows have C19 casements or sashes. Right
hand gable end stone ridge stack and similar ridge stack to right of centre.
Interior: chamfered beams with stepped stops in room to right of entrance.
Former stables: 2 storeys 2 bays. Ground floor C20 3-light window in C17 style.
Pitching hole to upper floor loft with 2-light recessed flat faced mullioned
window with plain surround to right. Stone stack at junction with house.
Entrance in left-hand return.
