1/112 Sundial on terrace
at Gledstone Hall


Sundial, 1748, placed here probably 1923. Stands in the centre of the staircase
to the lower terrace. Sandstone. Cubical. Each face is differently inscribed:
(North) "Latitude 54 HR Rect 1748" (south) "The Sun to rule the Day", (east)
"We go hence like a shaddow" (west) "Watch and Pray". HR may be H Richardson,
rector of Thornton at the time.
