1/11 Buddhist shrine in garden
approximately 30 metres
to east of Kildwick Hall.

Garden ornament. Probably late C18 -C19. Grey granite-like stone. 4 legs
with incised line decoration support tapering cylindrical shaft surmounted
by an inverted truncated pyramid upon which the square shrine rests; side
panels pierced; the roof has a flattened cyma-moulded profile. One of 4
shrines possibly introduced with the garden layout by Frances Mary
Richardson Currer who had the bay-windowed extension to the Hall built in
1858. She was the grand-daughter of Robert, 1st Lord Clive's sister,
Frances Clive (d.1798), which suggests a possible family source for such
ornaments.
