House. Possibly late C18 with early C19 conversion and C20 addition.
Coursed gritstone rubble, grey slate roof, 2 storeys, 2 bays. Quoins to
right. Central C20 single-storey porch with small-pane windows; flanking
and first-floor windows have slightly projecting plain stone surrounds and
C20 small-pane frames. Stone gutter brackets; kneeler and gable coping to
right; end stacks. Interior not inspected at resurvey. Included for group
value. The house may have been a farmhouse originally, becoming an agents
house c1818 when the Duke of Devonshire appointed John Taylor as chief
agent and Captain Barratt as local agent for the lead mines. It is a
period of alterations at Yarnbury House (q.v.) and may have been the time
when the agent stopped living on the premises. A. Raistrick, Lead Mining
