CHURCH HILL (south side)
Nos 30 and 30A

II
Mid C19. Brown brick. Pitched modern pantile roof. Three storeys. Two bays. Flush-framed sashes with glazing bars. Contemporary shop-front with scrolled consoles
to fascia.

Church Hill was formerly a principal route from the east into the town centre of Selby, curving off from Ousegate, the town’s historic riverfront street. The historic curve of the street is respected by the faceted front elevation of the property. A map dating to 1848 shows that a narrow courtyard ran to the rear of the property, accessed from a passageway to the left of the shop front, and it was possibly connected to Richardson’s Court, in an area of dense housing and small warehouses to the rear.
