3/79 Thorganby House
House. c1850. Probably by Edward Blore. Reddish-orange brick in Flemish
bond with ashlar dressings and Welsh slate roof. Square on plan. Entrance
front: 2 storeys, 3 first floor windows. Plinth. Quoins. Off-centre
entrance a 6-fielded-panel door with overlight in chamfered surround and
within basket-arched architrave. Ground floor has 3-light mullion windows
in quoined and double-chamfered surrounds and under hoodmoulds. Two 2-light
mullion windows in quoined and double-chamfered surrounds. Above door a
single light window in slightly projecting bay with quoins. All windows are
2-pane sashes. Modillion eaves band. To left is gabled end of left return
with single 2-light sashes within quoined surrounds to gable and full-
height, slightly projecting stack with quoined sides surmounted by 3
diamond-set stacks. Otherwise ridge stack. Ashlar coping, kneeler and
finial to right. Left return (garden facade): 2 storeys, 3 bays of which
the left bay projects and is gabled with attic. Plinth. Quoins. 2 and 3-
light mullion windows in similar surrounds and mainly under hoodmoulds.
Those to gabled bay under continuous hoodmoulds. Corner stack rises from
first floor level. Modillion eaves band. Coping, kneelers and finial.
Interior: shutters to most windows. Dog-leg staircase has turned balusters.
