6/27 Went Bridge

Bridge. Early C19. Horizontally-tooled, deeply-coursed magnesian limestone.
Single span. Segmental arch set in a curve and springing from vertical
abutment walls; rusticated voussoirs and keystone with carved head. Band
above arch links to projecting abutment piers and to end piers of splayed
wing walls; domed parapet copings. Most elaborate of the surviving bridges
original to the Doncaster-York road as turnpiked following an act of 1832.
Partly in the parish of Norton in the county of South Yorkshire.
