Hotel, now flats. l853, for J W Unett. Brick, stuccoed to front and sides,
rendered to rear; slate roof. 4-storeys, basement and attic. 5-bays, of
which the centre and end bays project. Central projecting portico with
paired Doric columns and balustrade, over double doors, half panelled and
half-glazed with bevelled glass. Keyed Venetian window over portico, and
tripartite sash to second floor. The end bays have tripartite sashes, in
square bays to ground floor. First floor windows have detached console
cornice; second floor windows have moulded surrounds; third floor windows
have eared architraves; gabled dormers to attic. Continuous wrought iron
balcony to first floor; second floor sill band; modillion cornice to third
floor; moulded eaves cornice. Stacks pierce hipped roof. Return fronts:
4-storey bow windows flank centre bay with single window to each floor.
Fenestration and other features of the main front are repeated. Cast-iron
railings approximately 1½ metres high on low stone plinth to front and sides
of terrace. 4 fine cast-iron lamp pedestals remain, approximately 2 metres
high, at the outer corners and on each side of the portico.
