12/54 No. 2 (Castle House


Farmhouse and attached barn. Early C18, with late C18 and C19 extension and
alteration. Squared chalk, now whitewashed; red brick extensions and barn,
wnitewashed to front; pantile roof; brick stacks. Originally single-cell,
direct entry plan, extended later to the right in 2 stages; barn added to
left. 1½-storey front of 6 bays. 4-panel door with overlight to right of
centre, flanked by 16-pane sashes with stone sills. To left, the original
doorway is blocked by a 6-pane sash, with 2-light, small-pane, horizontal
sliding sash at end left. At end right is a 3-light, large-pane, horizontal
sliding sash with stone sill. Attic windows are raked dormers with sliding
sashes, the end left having square leaded lights. Door opening has a header
brick arch. Stepped brick eaves course to brick extensions. End stacks to
roof hipped at end right.
