7/31 Dale House


House. Early C19 with later C19 alteration and extension. Front and left
side of red brick in Flemish bond, right side of squared sandstone, on
sandstone plinth; rubble sandstone outshut; slate roof to house and pantile
roof to outshut; brick stacks, 1 rebuilt. Central-stairhall plan, 1 room
deep; outshut and extension to right added. 2-storey, 3-window front with
lower 2-storey, single-window extension to right. Central door of 6
recessed panels beneath Gothick-glazed overlight. 16-pane sashes with
painted stone sills throughout. Painted wedge lintels to all openings. 4-
pane sashes to extension, with bordered herringbone-tooled lintel to ground
floor. End stacks to house, and end right stack to extension. Interior:
open-string, dog-leg staircase, with moulded, ramped-up handrail, wreathed
at the foot, turned newels and balusters: shaped tread-ends with paterae.
Ground-floor room to left has panelled window opening, and moulded dado rail
and cornice. Early C19 fireplace with fluted frieze, foliate moulding to
centre panel and wheatear drops on each jamb.
