House. Late C18 with C19 and C20 extensions. Herringbone-tooled sandstone
to front, on plinth; squared sandstone to sides and rear; slate roof with
brick stacks. Central-stairhall plan, 1 room deep, with outshut and rear
service wing added. 3-storey, 3-window front. Central door of 4 raised and
fielded panels over a diagonal cross panel, with radial fanlight. open-
pedimented doorhood on scrolled brackets and shaped panelled jambs. Full-
height canted bays on either side with 16-pane sashes to ground floor. 16-
pane sashes to all first-floor windows, and unequal 12-pane sashes to second
floor. Windows over door have tripartite lintels. Painted stone sills to
all windows. Coped gables and plain kneelers. End stacks. Rear:
projecting 1½-storey bay to centre with Gothick-glazed staircase window
beneath round arch. Service wing has flat-arched 16-pane sashes. Interior:
open-string, dog-leg staircase with stick balusters, moulded handrail,
wreathed at foot round turned fluted newel, and ramped-up to landing; shaped
tread ends. Window and door recesses are panelled, with panelled shutters
to front windows. Both ground-floor front rooms have dado panelling and
late C18 fireplaces. In the first-floor room to left and second-floor room
to right basket grates survive. Doors of 6 raised and fielded panels
throughout front part of the house, some with L and butterfly hinges.
