(east side), Sleights
17/54 Carr View Hall

Small country house, now residential home for the elderly. Early C19 with
later C19 alteration and extension. Sandstone ashlar front, the remainder
bordered herringbone-tooled sandstone. Main roof of stone slate; rear
wing roof part stone slate, part Welsh slate. L-shaped on plan.
2-storey, 5-bay main front, articulated 1:3:1 by pilasters, on low plinth.
Entrance in left return. Main front windows are 12-pane sashes with stone
sills. Raised first floor band and moulded eaves cornice, returned at
each end. Panelled parapet, stepped up above three centre bays, with flat
coping. Hipped roof with end stacks rising from the base. Rear. Round-
headed staircase window beneath arch of shaped voussoirs. Left return.
2 storeys and attic, 4 windows. Right-of-centre projecting porch contains
6-panel door with overlight. Ground floor windows to left of porch, and
first floor windows, are 12-pane sashes, blind at first floor right. Two
unequal 9-pane sashes to attic. All windows have plain stone sills.
Raised attic band, and high flat parapet, ramped up at each end, masking
roof. Interior: open-string, dogleg staircase with concave stick
balusters, and moulded handrail, wreathed at foot. Segmental arch, on
panelled Corinthian pilasters, divides stair hall. First floor doors and
shutters of rebated raised and fielded panelling. RCHM, Houses of the
