Waymarker and boundary cross. Medieval. Stone. Hollow square socket
stone with broken cross shaft, approximately 1.1 metre high. Cross marked
the boundary of the old Whitby Strand and was a waymarker on the ancient
Whitby road to Pickering, via Red Gate and May Beck. T.H.Woodwark, The
Crosses on the North York Moors, pp.11 and 19.
