House, now 2 dwellings. Probably early C18, raised and renovated in later C18
and C19. Coursed herringbone-tooled sandstone, the upper part, above a first-
floor band, of finer quality. Pantiled roof, rendered chimneys. 2 storeys and
basement, 4 bays, nearly symmetrical. Alternating-block raised quoins. Burton
House has 4 steps to central 4-panel door (probably in original opening) under
renewed flat hood on brackets. At left 2 replaced sashes, in wood box frames,
on each floor. Small, barred chamfered basement opening, with fixed light, at
left; Yorkshire sash in well under iron grille to right. Cliff Head has
inserted C20 boarded door, under bracketed flat hood, next to Burton House
door. C19 sash with margin lights at right. First floor replaced sashes in box
frames. Coved eaves; C19 gable copings, raised square kneelers and end stacks.
Rendered right return has modern door and windows. Included for group value.
