House. C17 with C19 alterations. Rubble with stone dressings, quoins, copings
and pantile roof. 2 storeys, 3 windows to ground floor, 5 windows to upper floor.
Ground floor windows are one 3-light and two 4-light ovolo mullion windows with
dripstones and C19 casements. Upper windows are three 3-light C19 wood casements
in original openings and two 3-light ovolo mullion windows also with C19 casements.
Doorway below 2nd upper window from left hand is probably a C19 insertion and has
a 4-centred arch with a single chamfer. C20 plank door with glazed panel.
2 stone stacks and 1 brick. C20 outshut to rear conceals a reset Decorated niche
with cusping and a chamfered respond. This was probably inserted in the C19 when
the house served as a nunnery. Interior. Large inglenook fireplace in ground
floor left hand room with a stop chamfered beam and bread oven. Several chamfered
beams in other rooms. 1st floor corridor has at either end a segmental arched
doorway with chamfered jambs and a panelled partition wall with nuns' sliding spy
holes.
