II*

Farmhouse, dated 1749 with initials I. & M.T. Herringbone-tooled
sandstone with ashlar dressings; rougher tooling on outbuildings.
Purple slate roof with stone copings, kneelers and stacks. 2
storeys, 3 bays. Plinth, raised quoins, first floor band and coved
cornice returned to gable ends. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Central modern
half-glazed door in hollow-chamfered surround with alternating-
block raised jambs matching the house quoins. Hollow-chamfered
keystone with flanking incised scrolls. Small round-headed window
above with fluted keystone and moulded imposts. 3-light hollow-
chamfered stone-mullioned windows on both floors at each side.
1 mullion missing at either side on ground floor; plain casements
and early C19 sashes inserted. The first-floor centre window is a
fixed light with radial head. At left a lower 2-storey outhouse,
of rougher stonework, with boarded door and pitching door. Beyond
this a lower stable with 2 doors: the stone looks re-used.

Rear elevation shows chamfered passage doorway and another door
inserted immediately to right. Chamfered stone-mullioned windows,
2-light above and 3-light below, with 1 mullion removed from the
latter; plain casements and C19 sashes inserted. Modern lst-floor
centre window inserted.

Interior: Wide central through-passage with splat-baluster staircase.
In downstairs left room a narrow old stone fire hood with short
flanking columns. Fire beam with modillion cornice added in front.
Beams and joists with quarter-round moulding throughout ground floor.
"The oldest freestanding centralized-plan yeoman house in the
region".
