Dale Head Farmhouse
and wall to left
Purpose-built bee shelter and wall. 1832. Sandstone with purple Lakeland slate
roof. Lectern shape. 1 low storey. Plinth with coping band. Upon this an
arcade of 6 shouldered segmental arches with monolith heads supported on side
masonry and single slabs between. The alcoves thus formed were used as shelters
for straw bee skeps in winter. Band at eaves. Stone ridge and end copings,
Short length of low wall to left holds bronze plaque dating the building and
also its restoration in 1983 by the National Park Committee.
