Former Temperance Hall)
SE 7984 1/120 2.5.74.
Former Temperance Hall. Formerly a Methodist Chapel, then used as the earliest
cinema, with the projection box in situ at time of survey, and original camera
now in Beck Isle Museum. Early Cl9. 2 storeys in stone. Gable end has scrolled
pediment terminals. Carved circular window above string. 2 windows, hung sashes
with glazing bars, keystone. Ground floor has 1 window, hung sashes with glazing
bars, keystone. Doorway with tall rectangular fanlight below keystone. Double
door of 4 panels. Bridge Street elevation has 3 windows, of which 1 is covered
by a hoist cover and the other 2 are hung sashes with glazing bars and keystones
to lintels. Ground floor has 2 windows, 1 replaced by a plain shop window.
Panelled inset door, with rectangular fanlight and keystone. Later l-storey
outbuildings to side. Undergoing alteration at time of survey (August 1974).

Nos 1 and 2 and premises formerly occupied by John Hague form a group with the
Rose Inn, Nos 5 to 8 (consec) and the Masonic Hall.
