Garden wall attached to
west side of Garforth
Garden wall. Mid C18, possibly with earlier origins. Red brick in
stretcher bond, with stone coping to garden side: outer side of squared
limestone with pantile coping. Quadrant on plan, approximately 100 metres
long and 5 metres high. Garden side: segmental arch to right with paired
gates. To left, round-arched niche, possibly a summerhouse originally.
Flat coping. Outer side: 4 semicircular buttresses at regular intervals.
Gateway to left has brick arch with stone keyblock and roughly-tooled
quoins. One battered buttress of C19-C20 brick approximately at centre.
Pent coping. The wall is said to be a survival from the C17 hall which
originally stood on the site.
