House. Late C16 or C17 with earlier origins and C19 addition. Limestone
rubble, pantile roof. 2-cell, probably originally direct entry with later
cross wing. 2 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. Quoins. Irregular
fenestration. 16-pane sash and casement beneath wooden lintels. First
floor: 2 casements and a 3-light Yorkshire sash. Original entrance in rear
facade, now incorporated in later addition. Retiled swept roof. Stack
rising through pitch of roof. Interior: large basket-arched stone fireplace
with keel moulding, partially rebuilt, with an ogee-arched aumbry set into
the wall to the right. The roof, of trenched purlin tie-beam and collar
type, is probably late C16 or C17 in date, but a fragment of timber studding
and a massive stone staircase in situ in the attic suggest a house of
earlier date substantially rebuilt. C19 wing to west not of special
interest.
