3/4 Low South House Farmhouse
- II
Farmhouse. Late C18 with later extension. Herringbone-tooled sandstone
with pantile roof. Originally 2-cell direct-entry plan with rear service
extension. 2-storey, 2-window front. C20 door in rear extension. 3-light,
3-pane casements to ground floor and similar 2-pane casements to first
floor, all in unaltered openings. Painted stone sills to all windows. All
openings have tooled long lintels with incised diagonally-tooled wedges.
Stepped eaves course. Coped gables and shaped kneelers. End stacks. Rear
extension: lintels are roughly tooled. Coped gable and shaped kneeler.
Rear: 2-light, large-pane horizontal sliding sash to first floor. Interior:
interior of house is unaltered except for replacement fireplaces. Square
section beaded joists exposed on ground floor. Boxed stairs, panelled
below, along back wall of entrance room. Original plank door with 6-panel
frame pegged on between service extension and main house. Other doors are
of 6 raised and fielded panels, the one beneath the stairs with an H-L
