6/21 Castle Howard Estate Yard
east and south range
Coach-houses, implement shed and utility rooms and blacksmith's shop. Early
C19, with later alterations. Hammer-dressed sandstone, Welsh slate roofs.
L-shaped on plan. 2-storey coach-houses, single-storey implement shed and
utility rooms and blacksmith's shop. East facade: coach-house to left,
utility rooms to right. Coach-house: plinth. 3 keyed elliptical-arched
carriage entrances with continuous impost band and slatted doors. First
floor: 2 slatted openings beneath wedge lintels. Gable coping, cyma reversa
kneelers. Utility rooms: double-leaf board door and single board door to
left. Fixed windows to centre. Fixed windows flanked by board doors. All
openings elliptical-arched beneath arched lintels. South range: implement
shed to left, coach-house and stable to centre, blacksmith's shop to right.
6 bays to implement shed. First and second bays open. Third and fourth
bays with C20 board garage doors. Fifth and sixth bays each have board door
with divided overlight to right and window to left, that to fifth bay
slatted, that to sixth bay fixed. Coach-house: 3 bays. Board door with
divided overlight and slatted opening both under keyed wedge lintels to
left. Keyed elliptical-arched carriage openings with imposts and board
doors to right. First floor: slatted openings beneath wedge lintels. Gable
coping and shaped kneelers. Blacksmith's shop: central entrance, board door
with divided overlight flanked by 3-light Yorkshire sashes all under keyed
wedge lintels. Gable coping and end stack to right.
