Statue of Apollo Belvedere and the pedestal on which it stands. Mid C18
statue by John Cheere; pedestal c1720, probably by Nicholas Hawksmoor.
Sandstone pedestal, lead statue. Pedestal approximately 2.5 metres in
height, statue life size. Square 3-course base carries drum pedestal with
moulded base and cornice, and festoons. Heavily decayed statue with its
head and one arm missing, supported to rear by iron rod. Copied from a
Roman copy of a bronze original by Leochares now in Vatican Museum, Rome.
