Statue of Silenus with the Infant Bacchus, and the pedestal on which it
stands. Mid C18 statue. Pedestal c1720, probably by Nicholas Hawksmoor.
Sandstone pedestal, lead statue. Pedestal approximately 2.5 metres in
height, statue life size. Square 3-course base carries drum pedestal with
moulded base and cornice, and festoons. Statue of faun Silenus, leaning on
a tree trunk holding the child Bacchus in his arms. Copied from a Roman
copy of a bronze original of the late C4, by Lysippus or one of his
followers, now in the Louvre, Paris. Haskell F and Penny N, Taste and the
