GV II

School. 1869 on datestone; C20 extension. Hammered sandy limestone on
chamfered plinth with ashlar quoins and dressings; extension of red brick in
English garden wall bond and stone. Slate roof; corrugated iron roof to
extension. Cruciform on plan with lean-to in re-entrant angle at rear;
extension at rear added. 1-storey, 1-window projecting cross gable in the
centre flanked by 1-storey, 1-window bays. Entrance in right return.
Central cross gable contains 3-light window of stepped lancets beneath coved
hoodmould on corbel heads. Roundel in moulded surround above, inscribed:

of
William Rutson Esq
1869

Flanking bays have lancets beneath hoodmoulds on foliate corbel stops.
Eaves guttering supported on lion mask clamps. Coped gables terminating in
gablets and elaborately shaped kneelers. Crested ridge tiles. Fleur-de-lys
finials to gables. Left return: gabled bay with single-storey lean-to at
left. Stepped lancet window and gable-end roundel containing a blind
quatrefoil. 2-light chamfered mullion window in lean-to. Right return:
gable repeats that in the left return. Bay at right contains nail-studded
board door in double-chamfered quoined opening beneath pointed hoodmould on
foliate stops. Uncarved escutcheon over door. C20 extension at rear not of
special interest. Building unoccupied at time of resurvey.
