Church. C13 nave; late C14 tower and south porch; north aisle narrowed in
late C18; restoration of late C19, when chancel was rebuilt. Dressed
sandstone on chamfered plinth; slate roof. West tower; 5½-bay aisled nave
and continuous chancel; south porch. Squat tower with embattled parapet.
Dwarf offset buttresses flank west window of 3 pointed lights with renewed
chamfered mullions. Louvred 2-centred-arched bell openings in east, west
and south faces. Pent-roofed vice on north face. String course beneath
parapet. Gabled porch contains chamfered opening with 2-centred arch on
moulded imposts. Coved hoodmould on headstops has keystone with carved head
of St Peter with crossed keys. Gable apex contains canted sundial. Cavetto
moulded eaves course. South doorway is 2-centred with renewed door on
reused C-hinges. East of door are 2 square-headed windows of 3 foiled
lights with renewed Dagger tracery. Dwarf offset buttresses further east,
and two C19 lancets with hoodmofilds in chancel. North side has 4 lancets
and offset buttress at each end. Renewed east window of 3 foiled lights
with Geometric tracery beneath pointed hoodmould. Gable cross at chancel
east end. Interior: double-chamfered tower arch on coved imposts, the north
one renewed. North arcade of double-chamfered arches on 4 cylindrical and
a central octagonal piers. Capital of westernmost pier has nailhead
moulding; the next east has fleurons; octagonal pier capital has limpet
shell mouldings. Remaining capitals uncarved. Easternmost arch rests on
reused headstop. Continuous hoodmould to arcade on 3 head and 3 stiff-leaf
stops. Glass: east window in south aisle, to John and Hannah Taylor, c1879.
Good C19 oil lamps with ruby glass and brass fittings.
