4/66A Railway Signal Box at
Kirkham Abbey Station


Signal box. c. 1856. Built for the York and North Midland Railway, probably
designed by G. T. Andrews. Red brick with slate roofs. Ground floor has 2 round
headed windows with glazing bars to north-east front. A first floor ashlar bond
supports an iron bracketed balcony which runs around 3 sides of the building.
This is reached up a set of external wooden steps. North-east front has 2 large
sliding sashes with glazing bars, side walls have a single similar window each,
that to the south-east with a door as well. Rear front has a projecting central
stack, flanked by single round headed windows with glazing bars.
