8/30 Coulton Mill
Mill and miller's house. Late C17 with C18 and C19 additions and
alterations. Sandstone rubble, rendered to front, Welsh slate roof to
house, pantile roof to mill. Mill to left, direct-entry 2-cell house to
right with continuous outshut at rear. Mill: single storey. Stable door to
right. Small pitching door with fixed window above to left. Wooden lintels
throughout. To left an overshot waterwheel, with spokes clasping; axle.
House: 2 storeys, 2 first floor windows with evidence for raised roofline
above first floor windows. C20 half-glazed door to left. 4-pane sashes
beneath wedge lintels throughout. End stacks. Interior: former external
wall between the two main rooms, suggesting right hand section is an
addition. Chamfered cross beam in left hand room. Heck survives but
bressumer has been removed. Blocked doorway from left hand bedroom gives
direct access to mill.
