SE 2855 10/111 Oakdale Manor


Circa 1902 in Scottish baronial style; until recently, Oakdale School. Mostly
2 storeys with irregular plan. Symmetrical main south front of 3 bays with central
square, projecting oriel window flanked by semi-octagonal bay windows. Servants
wine at east end with later extensions. Tiled roof. Random coursed, hammer-dressed
grit stone ashlar. Battlemented parapets with gargoyles and string below. Central
turret. Battlemented chimneys of 2 and 7 stacks. Sill strings. Transom and
mullion windows with lead lights. Main south front with oriel window flanked
by openings with hood moulds incorporating coats of arms; east opening wth panelled
door. Main entrance at rear in 1 storey extension. Decorated lead rainwater
heads. Jacobean interior with plastered ceilings and staircase with twisted
balusters. Included for curiosity value.
