Circa 1829 built bu John Thompson as a 90 ft high viewpoint embracing "three
cathedrals, seven battlefields, seventeen castles, twenty-three abbeys,twenty
market towns, over seventy gentleman's seats and nearly two hundred churches"
(Hargrave). Plain square tower of hammer dressed ashlar. Modern domed observatory
roof and upper storey with plain coping. Irregularly placed loops. 2 storey
entrance extension on east side with tiled roof and 1st floor doorway approached
by steps.
