1836. Former cell-block of former Borough Police Station, No 5 Kirkgate. Brown
brick: ground floor white-washed. Two storeys. Brackets to gutter. Two barred
windows on first floor. Stone plaque with defaced shield of arms.

It ceased to be a cell-block when the Borough Police Force was superseded by the West
Riding Force in 1887, and the latter took over the former House of Correction, disused
since 1878. (See No 27 St Mary's Gate, gv).
