3/9 The Hill

House, 1860. By William Butterfield for Viscount Downe of Baldersby
Park. Red brick, English bond, ashlar bands and window surrounds. Blue
brick detailing and C20 tile roof. Square building in High Victorian
style. 2 storeys, irregular fenestration. Entrance front: recessed bay
to left has porch with Gothic arch in blue headers and ashlar and
original half-glazed panelled door. To right, 2 ground floor windows of
2 lights with mullions removed, and to first floor on right a 3-light
window with sashes rising as a half-hipped dormer. All window frames
appear to be C20. The main stack straddles the ridge and is stepped
with tumbled-in brickwork. Formerly the Estate Agent's house.
