Boundary wall and gates. c1854. By William Butterfield. Snecked stone
with 4 courses of red brick above, stone coping and buttresses. Wooden
gates with iron fittings. Approximate height 1.2 metres, east wall of
school yard slightly higher. Gates: 1 double and 2 single; to school
yard, school entrance and School House entrance respectively. School
yard double gates: alternate long and short bars hollow chamfered
tops, left gate post original, narrower right gate has strap hinges with
ducks-head ends. Horizontal and diagonal braces. School entrance: pair
of gates with tall vertical ,bars hollow chamfered tops, horizontal and
diagonal braces. Gate posts C20 concrete not of special interest.
School House entrance: alternate long and short bars with straight
chamfered tops, horizontal and diagonal braces. Gate posts probably
original. The truncated pyramidal form of the posts and rails reflect
the form of the chimney pots at the school house. Included mainly for
group considerations.
