Gates and pedestrian arches with gates. Mid to late C18. Wrought iron
and wood to gates, ashlar to piers. Double gate, flanked by narrower
pedestrian gates set in pedimented, flat-arched surrounds. Rusticated
ashlar, each pier with pilaster with egg and dart motif to echinus
supporting entablature. Triangular pediment over has deep eaves and
coat of arms with motto, 'Reason contents me' in tympanum. Pedestrian
gate to left: wooden with original lower half in Chinese style, later
bars above. Wooden pedestrian gate to right is a copy. Central double
gates: wrought iron. Arrow-headed standards,circles and scrolls in
lower half of gate, rosettes in frames of lock rail, and scrolls and
fleur-de-lis to upper half.
