Description

SE 24 NW LINDLEY FARNLEY TO LINDLEY ROAD

4/56 Lindley Bridge over River
Washburn

22.11.66

II

Bridge. Shortly after 1767 with C19 addition to north. Ashlar. Tall round arch to
left, lower flood arch to right, small round arch far right. Large pointed
cut-waters each side. Plain voussoirs to main and right arches, rock-faced
ashlar over, projecting band, parapet with flat-pointed coping. Shallow
flanking buttresses to larger 2 arches, with the coping raised slightly
above them. The smaller arch, far right, has rock-faced keystone and
voussoirs. It was probably added when Lindley Wood Reservoir was built,
c1866. A severe flood destroyed the bridge in 1767 - see H Speight, Upper
Wharfedale, London, 1900, p 107.
