Description

SE 24 NW LINDLEY LINDLEY ROAD
SE 2279 4870

4/57 Milepost at junction with
Stainburn road

II

Milepost. Mid C18. Gritstone. Height approximately 90 centimetres, square
section. Inscriptions: south face - crudely carved hand pointing east;
east face - crudely carved hand pointing north, with remains of lettering
below. The place-names appear to have been deliberately effaced; this may
have been done when a more direct road between Leathley and Stainburn was
made after 1793. H Speight, Upper Wharfedale, London, 1900, p 127.
