Chapel. 1874. By A E Purdie for Sir Percival Radcliffe, bart. Coursed,
rock-faced gritstone and ashlar, Westmorland slate roof. 5-bay nave with
clerestory and side aisles, 2-bay chancel with side-chapels and pentagonal
mortuary chapel attached to east end. A very large chapel in High Victorian
Gothic Style, with 5-light east window with cinquefoils and quatrefoil
openings. above. 4-light west window above main entrance. Stepped
buttresses, ashlar gable copings, bellcote over junction between nave and
chancel. The mortuary chapel has ornate bellcote pinnacles and a
pentagonal roof. Interior: nave:circular piers of polished Aberdeen granite
with naturalistic capitals. Other columns of pink marble with foliate
capitals flank clerestory windows, and groups of 3 angels with musical
instruments support triple columns of chancel arch. Elaborate reredos with
flanking doorways, all with carvings of saints and crockets. Original
