6/44 Stables at Hollin Hall

GV II

Stable block, now garage and stores. Early C19, probably for Colonel
Richard Wood. Coursed squared limestone, painted, grey slate roof with 2
eaves courses of stone. Horseshoe plan. 2-storey, 2-bay main block flanked
by single-storey bays with projecting single-storey, 3-bay wings. Main
block: 2 double doors to coach house with large segmental-arched windows
above and lunette windows to first floor. Single-storey ranges: each side
of main range are 3 board stable doors, one blocked, and a C20 sliding
garage door. Blind arch in gable end of both wings. Moulded eaves band,
hipped roofs; chimney stack to main range, right. The stables are probably
contemporary with the construction of a new drive to the north of Hollin
Hall built early C19 and no longer in use.
