Listing Text

The following shall be added:-


The Old Barn to N.E of
Low Farmhouse


Threshing barn with attached stable and hayloft. c1800. Banded
cobble and rubble with ashlar dressings and hipped stone slate roof.
North street front has off-centre pair of threshing doors within a
segment headed ashlar surround, flanked by 2 rows of 3 breathers. To
the left a small opening, and above 2 hayloft openings with board
doors. East front has central plank door, with segment brick head and
above 2 rows of 3 breathers. South front, to farmyard, has slightly
projecting barn to left with central threshing opening within a
segment headed ashlar surround, now filled with brick and a small
plank door, to the right another plank door. Above 2 rows of
breathers. To the right, set back, the stable with central stable
door flanked by small windows. Above a central loft door flanked by
single 2-light chamfered mullion windows. Interior. Simple queen
post roof with double purlins, re-using old timbers. Stables have 3
wooden stalls, and hayloft above.
