2/26 Church of Saint John


Church. 1841. For the Dalton family of Sleningford Grange (qv). Coursed
split cobbles, ashlar dressings, purple slate roof. Nave of 4 bays with
west bellcot, south porch and l-bay chancel. Built in Early English style
with chamfered arch to gabled porch, inner door with elaborate wrought-iron
hinges. Lancet windows alternate with stepped buttresses; 3 lancets to east
end. Interior: wide chancel arch flanked by boards with Ten Commandments
and creed; contemporary furnishings. Open timber roof with common rafters.
