Folly. Dated 1750 for Wm Aislabie. Tufa rubble and ashlar. Roofless,
formerly with stone slates. Octagonal in plan, 1 storey. A pointed-arched
doorway with Gothick pilasters and moulded arch. Above a tablet inscribed
"WA 1750". To other sides are pointed-arched window openings with the
remains of wooden Y-tracery in the heads. Plain eaves band. The WA in the
inscription refers to William Aislabie of Studley Royal, near Ripon who laid
out Hackfall Wood during the middle of the 18th century in the "Romantic"
vein. The building is known as Fisher's Hall after Aislabie's chief
gardener who worked at Hackfall. Derelict at time of resurvey. North
Yorkshire Historic Gardens Register - Hackfall, Grade I.
