pair of lodge houses at
Ribston Lodge

Pair of lodges with linking railings to gate piers. Mid-late C18, possibly
by John Carr. Wrought-iron railings. Ashlar, stone slate roofs to lodges.
Lodges, single bay and square in plan. The entrances to the lodges are
inward-facing and each has rusticated quoins to impost level of west facade.
A central panelled door in an architrave with entablature and cornice
flanked by wreaths in relief, above. Moulded eaves cornice; central
corniced stack. West facade: each lodge has central round-headed window
with glazing bars in a round-arched recess with moulded arch and band at
impost level, rusticated jambs forming quoins below. Moulded cornice to
pedimented gable. Railings link the west facade to the gate piers; the
railings are approximately 2 metres high and are ramped-up to the piers,
with arrow-head finials to bars and dogbars, and pendants to the upper and
lower rails. Gate piers: of rusticated ashlar to cornice level, plain
entablatures have wreaths in relief; shallow triangular pedimented copings
surmounted by heraldic crests. The right-hand pier restored c1985. The
group is similar to the Walshford Lodge at Ribston Hall (qv). Formerly
listed under Great Ribston with Walshford parish.
