Early C20 by Sir Ernest George. Rendered brick, ashlar dressings, graduated stone
slate hipped roof. Symmetrical composition. Three-storey central tower with
pyramidal roof, clock stage and domed bellcote with vane, has 3 slit vents on top, 3
small sashes on first floor and round arched carriage entrance below; and is flanked
by 2-storey 4-bay side sections. Sash windows with glazing bars in raised surrounds
Stone alternating quoins.
The other 3 ranges around the courtyard are of machine brick and no special design
quality but the graduated stone slate roofs are handsome and important to the
composition.
