7/38 Hornby Grange


House. 1767. Red brick in Flemish bond, brick and ashlar dressings,
graduated slate roof. 2 storeys, 8 bays. 3:2:3 in plan. Stone plinth,
5 steps up to central 2 fold half-glazed door with margin lights. Roman
Doric porch with pilasters either side of door and narrow flanking sashes,
2 columns, supporting frieze, cornice and triangular pediment. Continuous
sill band. To either side a full-height canted bays with full-height 8-pane
C19 casement French windows to each side. Wide first-floor band. Above 8
sashes with glazing bars and continuous sill band. All windows have flat
brick arches. Stone modillion cornice. Roof hipped, corniced brick ridge
stacks. Side elevations with similar sashes and bands. Rear: 2 small
square wings, central arched stair window.
