2 cottages, now shop. Probably late C17, with later alterations. Rendered, pantile
roof. 2 storeys, 2 first-floor windows. Ground floor, from left: canted bay
window with fixed light glazing bars; part-glazed door in C19 classical surround;
side-sliding sash window; part-glazed door. First floor: side-sliding sash windows.
Eaves band. Brick stacks to left end and in centre of ridge. Right return: cruck
struss with a saddle and a high collar extended out towards the front, exposed by
the demolition of adjoining cottage, which had probably once been of cruck
construction, and together with 2 other cottages, demolished for road widening in
1974, was recorded by the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Vernacular Buildings Study
Group, Report No 277. Included for group value.
