to south west of
Airyholme Farmhouse
GV II
Barn and byre, early-mid C18; walls of similar date. Roughly herringbone-tooled
coursed sandstone; pantiled roofs with stone dressings. 2 sections. Left part
1 storey, 2 bays. 2 boarded doors under plain lintels. Taller right part,
possibly also 2 bays. Stable door at left under broken lintel. Otherwise blank
or concealed by added front building. Stone copings and square kneelers. Load-
ing door and owl holes in right gable end; owl hole and 2 pigeon holes in left.
Wall, with gabled coping and openings at both ends (west near barn a boarded
door, east near house an iron gate) forms south east boundary of garden.
Similar wall, ramped up near house, encloses opposite side and forms rear wall
of small outbuilding with boarded doors on north and west. Central wall, with
flat slab coping, ramped up to about 8 feet, has low door near barn, gateway
near house. Cartshed to north of barn, boarded building against north wall and
rubble building with concrete-tiled roof built against taller part of barn, are
not of interest.
