Farmhouse, now house. Of C17 origins, dated "S/IF/171O" on decorative hopper
head to left. Rubble, squared and coursed on south front, slate roof, coped
raised verges. 2 storeys, attic and part basement, 6 windows. Timber mullion
and transom leaded casements with catches and stays. 3-panel door in moulded
frame under pedimented porch on thin columns. Plain band between floors.
Prominent timber gutter on cast iron brackets. 3 pedimented dormers with
louvres and ball finials. Gable stacks with cornice. Set back C19 east wing
leaves part east gable showing with gable entry door under dripmould and 2-light
ovolo moulded mullion casement above. At rear 3 wings of 2 storeys with cross
windows as front and later casements, single storey entrance block beyond.
Basement of west wing has a 3-light chamfered mullion stone window.
Interior: C17 features in
east ground floor room; ceiling, two feet lower than elsewhere has very deep
chamfered beams with ridge stops and inglenook fireplace with bread oven,
chamfered timber lintel and counterbalanced spit mechanism. West wing basement
room has a plank door in ovolo moulded frame. Fine open well staircase has
plain square capped newels, heavy handrail and turned balusters; at foot,
3 dog gates with curved heads, plain balusters and panels below, respectively to
basement, rear entry and main stair; plaster ceiling at head has central oval
wreath and later quadrant decoration. Rear west ground floor room is panelled,
adjoining front room partly panelled; both have paintings, over doors in front,
over door and corner fireplace in rear.
