Factory, formerly Thirsk Union Workhouse. 1838. Brown brick. New slate roof, with
hipped cross wings. 2 storeys. Symmetrical, late classical style. 5-bay central
section with slightly projecting l-bay wings. Stucco entablature at eaves. First flor
cill band. Side wings articulated by brick pilasters. Plain wooden doorcase with
brackets and flat hood. Panelled door with radial fanlight. Ground floor windows to
central section with gauged round arches and replaced sashes with glazing bars.
Segmental arched windows to side wings within segmental relieving arches. To the first
floor squat openings with replacement single hung windows with glazing bars. N
