9/34 (north-east side)

The New Inn, Nos. 60-66

Public house. Probably mid C18 with later alterations and additions. Red-brown
brick, colour-washed front. Pantile roof with end stacks. Central 3-storey, 3-bay
section has a central entrance with C20 door in C19 wooden open-pedimented case with
pilasters and an oblong fanlight. C19 canted bay and C19 sashes. Bands to floor
levels, stepped to 1st floor.
To left: 2-storey, 2-bay section with carriage entrance, door to right in wood
architrave. C19 glazing. 1st floor band and stepped eaves.
To right: 2-storey section of 2 builds, each one bay with 2 roof levels. The inner
bay contains a C19 entrance with plain door and oblong fanlight. Canted bay to
left, sashes. Bands continue at levels of 3-storey section. No 1st floor band to
outer bay.
Formerly an important coaching inn.
